The Product Development Coordinator will be responsible for tracking and ensuring compliance of engineering documentation as part of a lithium-ion battery product development organization.  This person will work with scientists and engineers who report into the Cell Product Development organization and ensure that all design documents meet A123’s standards for document quality, and to ensure that document packages for each lithium-ion cell are complete and appropriate for stage gate review.



The candidate must be thoroughly familiar with the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) or similar process, and drive compliance to document guidelines throughout the Cell Product Development organization.  The candidate should be highly familiar with product development, and be comfortable driving accountability throughout the organization to ensure that design documentation is submitted correctly and on time.  This candidate should be very comfortable with version control software (such as Agile), and be extremely familiar with engineering change (EC) processes.


The preferred candidate will have a track record of product development, an understanding of Tier-1 automotive, and an understanding of the battery industry.


Travel up to 25% (including international) required.


  • MS in an engineering discipline or related field of study.
  • Familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) or similar product development process required
  • 8+ years in a product development role
  • Experience working in the automotive industry preferred (Tier-1 supplier particularly)
  • Experience in battery industry preferred
  • Demonstrated record of launching products successfully.
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) preferred.
  • Understanding of Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA) preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
